A word of warning: many on AVS who have adopted ART have gone on to say they need to get more SWs, better speakers, etc. because the processing is that good! The 3800/ART combo is probably the best value you can get in home theater right now short of buying uber expensive StormAudio or Trinnov products.
The RZ30 is a SD darling because it's cheap and has DL. Always pay the most that you are willing to pay and no more!

And yeah, I agree with drawing a line in the sand when it comes to pricing. While BF is certainly the biggest and most popular shopping season of the year.. Everybody on Slickdeals knows that great deals can be found all year long. As long its something you "want" vs something you "need".. being price conscious is the best way to shop without ending up with regret of paying too much or buying something that might be missing features.
As crazy as it sounds to keep waiting to save another $89.. that's exactly what I did with the Klipsch RP 5.0 complete set, and sure enough, the price dropped another $200 ($1,699 to $1,499) on actual BF. Waiting in that case saved me $200. Im also aware of Electronics Expo selling open box 3800 units for $1,100 "open box" pretty much all year round.
So while I would certainly prefer new for $1,100.. that $1,189 isnt low enough to get me to pull the trigger right now. Anything between $1,000 to $1,100 new, and I'd pull the trigger.

I'm replacing a 12-year-old Yamaha AVR that I got from Costco that are pushing budget friendly Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers with dual Daytona 12" subs running 7.2 surround. So all of this is kinda new.. but also kinda not.. as this entire purpose of this new system is to be a significant step up all around. There are so many new tech buzzwords with these latest generation AVR's that Im having a hard time keeping up. Dirac Live Room Control + Bass Control + ART sounds like the best possible combination of tuning software, but a minimum of another $800 for the entire package?? Meanwhile A1EVO is free and seems to do 2/3rds of what $800 combo would do. So in my mind why immediately spend another $800 for the entire Dirac package.. when A1EVO comes free with the Denon 3800? If anything the free A1EVO is yet another strong reason to just buy the 3800.
My other concern with something like the Onkyo RZ30 is quality. Denon (and Marantz) has always seemed step up beyond everybody for the overall typical HT AVR experience. For example over a decade now I've heard so many great things about Audyssey. I've also felt the YPAO tuning on my Yamaha was weak. I also hate Yamaha remote control, GUI interface or smartphone app. And I've heard bad things about the hardware quality of Onkyo receivers (HDMI ports dying, etc).
With $3,000 in reference quality speakers.. Ideally I want to the highest quality AVR I can get for right around $1,000.
- Onkyo Z30 is only $800, does most of what I want.. but not sure I trust the brand and doesnt come with free A1EVO.
- Denon 2800 only $830 but is limited to 7.2 surround.
- Denon 3800 cost more than $1,000 but can handle 9.4 surround and is future proofed if decide to go DL RC+BC+ART in the future.
I just need to find the 3800 at a price point closer to that $1,000 mark to pull the trigger. Might be time to consider the refurbished 3800 from Electronics Expo.
