I can't speak for all Ace locations, but I love my local Ace Hardware. The owner and staff are the friendliest people in retail I deal with, hands down. I'd gladly pay 10% more to be greeted as I walk in the store, get help in seconds and not have to bend over backwards if I need to return something. The only things I won't buy at Ace are things they literally don't sell (like lumber and Masonry block).

Just curious, did it come out to the same price you could have gotten the items elsewhere!! The mark up at Ace is crazy for some items, curious if it excluded Yeti products.

Ace actually had the lowest regular price on the fertilizer I use in my garden, which is Espoma Plant Tone, but only in the 36 lb bag, which was less than a dollar a pound. The 50 lb bag was about $1.50 a lb, and the smaller bags were more. With the discount, this was the lowest price I've seen. I got about $12 off, and stacked a $5 reward. With Ace, you just have to watch their sales and discounts and you can beat Home Depot or Lowe's on some things. Plus, I got free delivery, and I had the $5 rewards that had accumulated due to previous purchases. But you're right about regularly price stuff at Ace. It's always higher, but the Rewards and the coupons can offset that.

I saw those exclusions, but that wasn't what I was after, anyway. The 25% is for items under 50 or $12.50 over $50, so you probably would not be using it for big ticket items anyway. I guess you could use $50 gift card plus $10 bonus card (already on SD) which amounts to 20% off

How did OP stack coupon with a $5 reward? It will only let me choose 25% or $5off reward in my online cart...

Coupon discount applies to cart before checkout, while the reward applies in payment step during checkout similar to a gift card so you can stack them both (coupon + reward)

I applied the $5 reward first, and then the December25 coupon. This was just random on my part, but it worked for me. I tried to use the bonus $10 gift card but it would not let me use both cards. This would have covered my entire purchase after discounts, but I ended up having to put the balance on my credit card.

Interesting pricing on the fertilizer. I was going to order either plant tone or garden tone but neither are in stock for pickup and delivery is not free even though I'm a rewards member and I added 2 bags to qualify for $50 min. If the free shipping actually worked you would have to get 2 bags in which case their CYBER25 code for 15% would take off more.

Kind of like the exclusions at Kohl's and Penny's. More things excluded than not. But their ads still say "30% off everything"!

thats like saying the local corner store's markup is crazy compared to amazon. its not a markup, they are just being undercut by the huge volumes the big stores do, while paying employees that dont know the difference between a 2x4 and a shoe.

my suggestion is to use the coupons and discounts and gift cards on the things that you cant get at home depot or lowes. bulk items like fuel pellets, specialty fasteners, emergency repair supplies, or things you have questions about, etc.

generally their stuff is more expensive, but there are serious deals to be had if you keep an eye out.

I used it to buy the no-spill gas cans, as they usually aren't much cheaper elsewhere. Yes, they are expensive but they are sturdy.

Purchased a Schlage entry door locking door knob. Regular price was $15 less than the the big box stores. That was before coupon.

I don't think the 36 lb bag was available at my local store either, but it was available to ship to store or delivery. Yeah, the price might be a glitch, because I watch the prices pretty closely at Home Depot, Lowe's and Ace, and Ace has the lowest regular price, by a small amount, but only on the 36 lb bag, but the discount made it pretty slick.
