Picked up the co-branded Samsung/Nintendo 256GB at Best Buy yesterday for $39.99, so I would expect to see better deals before Christmas than this $49.99 for the 256GB card.

Seems like a pretty solid deal. Amazon continues to offer me 8% cash back on no-rush orders paid via their Chase Visa card.

It's almost like anything that meets the SD standards are interchangeable.... (sarcasm meant for smooth brains, not the quoted)

The Switch supports UHS-1 cards, which have a maximum possible speed of 104MB/s. You can use faster cards, but you wouldn't gain any additional performance.

That's not true for the switch 2. It requires an "express" card because it needs the faster speeds.

Can you buy microSD Cards on amazon now? I assumed the answer was still no.

256GB P9 vs 256GB microSDXC, Up-to 180MB/s, Full HD & 4K UHD, UHS-I, C10, U3, V30, A2
Quick Answer: The Samsung P9 Express 256GB microSD is vastly faster and more advanced than the Samsung PRO Plus 256GB microSDXC UHS-I. The P9 offers PCIe/NVMe speeds up to 800 MB/s, while the PRO Plus tops out at 180 MB/s read and 130 MB/s write. The P9 is ideal for next-gen gaming devices and heavy workloads, while the PRO Plus is a reliable, affordable choice for cameras, drones, and everyday 4K video recording.
⚡ Key Comparison: Samsung P9 Express vs PRO Plus microSDXC

Max Read SpeedUp to 800 MB/sUp to 180 MB/s
Max Write SpeedNot specified, but far higher than UHS-IUp to 130 MB/s
Endurance (TBW)Up to 100TBStandard consumer endurance (not specified)
Target DevicesNintendo Switch 2, gaming consoles, high-performance mobile devicesSmartphones, tablets, drones, action cams

DurabilityResistant to water, temperature, drops, shocks, magnets, x-raysResistant to water, temperature, magnets, x-rays
Price Range~$50–75 (premium)~$25–30 (budget-friendly)
🔍 What This Means for You
Choose the P9 Express if…
You need cutting-edge speed for gaming consoles, next-gen devices, or workloads where load times matter.
You want future-proof storage with PCIe/NVMe performance.
You're okay paying a premium for performance.
Choose the PRO Plus if…
You want affordable, reliable storage for cameras, drones, or phones.
Your main use is 4K UHD video recording, photography, or everyday apps.
You don't need extreme speeds—180 MB/s is plenty for most consumer devices.
⚠️ Trade-offs
Compatibility: The P9 Express requires devices that support microSD Express. If your phone, camera, or console doesn't support it, you won't benefit from its speed.
Price vs Value: The PRO Plus is cheaper and widely compatible, making it the better everyday choice unless you specifically need the P9's extreme performance.
👉 Dan, since you're practical and like maximizing value, I'd say the PRO Plus 256GB is the smarter buy unless you're targeting a Nintendo Switch 2 or another microSD Express-compatible device. Otherwise, you'd be paying extra for speed you can't use.
Would you like me to break down device compatibility lists so you can see which of your gadgets would actually benefit from the P9?

Lol did you reply to yourself with chatgpt response? But yes, you only want express card for devices which support it. For something that continuously writes (dashcam etc), you want something like Samsung's Endurance line of micro SDs (which is not an SD spec).

Switch 2 will only work with Express (EX) cards and is not compatible with others. I believe support is rather limited currently, so most use cases will come from Switch 2.

Uhh...which was EXACTLY the point they were making. That a MicroSD Express card from one company or another makes no difference as long as it is MicroSD Express...

honestly this just shows how ridiculous camera manufacture stick to 30 years old microSD format, and refuse to use anything better.

you know how much a 512G V90 SD card cost?

Canon, Sony, and Nikon have a cfexpress option. In my a7iii, which was released in 2018 btw, I can use CFexpress type A or an SD card.
