Inventory is often co-mingled. So it may not matter if you buy from Amazon or not.

for parents, I would not buy 'jump start' packs unless you kid has fewer than 100 cards. even if they did have so few, I would buy a starter kit they like with prebuilt decks. Commander may or may not be too complicated just to start.

when you find a set they are interested in, buy play boosters for that set. if they just started, have them play arena online to figure out stuff.

just my opinion. I started during second edition and came back after a 25 year break.

Is one of these enough to make to playable beginner decks? I wanted to get my kids into it. I haven't played since the days of Mirage.
you want to buy a premade starter deck, and make sure they know not to mix up the cards until they really know how to build one and have enough cards to do it.

FWIW, I also came back to Magic after 25 years since my kids are old enough to play now and we really enjoy using the jumpstart boosters because, for the sub 10-year-olds, we can play with a 30 card deck, making it easy.. For my older kid, he started with a mini deck, and then mixed in other jumpstart decks to see what it was like to play a multicolor decks and become familiar with each mana color's core playing style. He eventually built a green landfall deck using the jumpstart base and poaching green cards from other jumpstart packs. Using a prebuilt id great as well, that's what we did with Lorcana, but I actually found this as an easy way to ramp up their foray into MTG.

Foundations was a great product. If you are building your collection, this is a great way to start. If the play boosters went on sale, I would definitely get those.
Jumpstart isnt a way to build a collection. You take two packs and smash them together to make a crappy deck and play against someone else's crappy deck. The cool thing is, you can start a collection of Jumpstart packs, keep them sleeved up and smash up different packs each time (I do this and it's a lot of fun). But these aren't traditional booster packs, so even if you break the packs up after playing, you're mostly getting nothing but chaff. I don't think Foundations Jumpstart has any chase cards to be found, so you're paying for the play experience.

I think this is the ideal product for that situation. If you want to spend a lot less just buy a set of starter decks.
