This will accelerate corrosion by trapping moisture and salt as it degrades. You want lanolin based coatings that can remove moisture.

Not sure how exactly a hydrophobic coating can remove moisture. The idea is that because it's sticky that it won't crack off and leave a gap like a rubber coating. Really it's all about the prep work.

For those who care this is Asphalt-based not a pure rubberized compound like truck bed liner. Certain applications prefer one or the other.
