My Smart Grinder served me well for over 13yrs and finally became intermittent so upgraded to the Pro model and it was a huge improvement in grind control. I love a grinder that can grind directly into a porta filter too. This is currently the best sale price I've found, and about the price I paid for the old one years ago.

good grinder. I bought it over 3 years ago at the same price. Just don't use oily beans or it will clog it.

Hi everyone I'm currently using Bambino with a hand grinder and I placed my order on df54 two days ago (not shipped yet) should I cancel my order and get this one instead?

stick with the baratza, the SGP has larger steps and higher retention. the ESP has lower steps and much lower retention, will be way easier for an intro grinder.

depends on your tolerance, some people like the ritual of hand grinding but it gets to be a bit tedious if you're making multiple cups. 100 into an electric grinder with parts and tech, vs 100 in to a hand grinder where all of that is going towards a better build. choose what's important to you

I think from a purely making espresso point of view the DF54 will beat this all day. But keep in mind it's also $300, I think the Breville is more of a fair comparison to the Encore ESP which also does very well at the same price. The Breville does have a bit of retention that goes away after a few grinds but that just means that you're essentially always having a bit of old grind in the new everytime you use it.

If you are serious about consistency and control then time is a silly way to measure the dose. Invest in a grinder that measures the dose by weight - directly into the porta filter. JMO

I'm a beginner at espresso. Is this a good grinder for espresso beans?

I clean the burrs with the included brush after every use, Takes only a min.

This is not a very good grinder, you're better off with the encore ESP. The grind consistency is just not as good and the weight isn't very accurate anyway.

just set your grind size and figure out how many grams you need by testing out the number of cups and fine tuning it. it's always been spot on 30g on every grind for 500ml my Mocamaster.
