best 8bitdo controller currently? want to pick up a new controller and would appreciate anyone's input.
Yep. Though I'd say it's between this one and 8bitdo Ultimate 2 depending on your preferred format.
Both have the same primary features, like TMR sticks, though this one has a few little extra things like the interchangeable buttons and cute (but useless) joystick-style thumbstick caps.
Also, the Ultimate 2 launched with only Windows/Switch compatibility, but it may have a FW update by now to add the other platforms.
Great controller but the face buttons are loud as hell. Not an issue for most people I reckon but if you're sensitive to that at all, you will definitely notice it.
I just want a controller that will fit my kid's small hands. They have one that's identical to the SNES controller, but it doesn't say it's compatible with the bluetooth, USB receiver

It actually originally launched with Windows/Android compatibility, but the latest firmware update allows you to use it on both Switch and Switch 2. You can also wake Switch 2 from sleep with the "shake to wake" feature.
The only issue is that you MUST use the dongle that comes with the dock. It currently does not work wirelessly without it.

Still not as small as an SNES controller. If Nintendo din't play their BS shenanigans, we'd be playing with their bluetooth snes controller right about now. But no, don't let it pair successfully to literally any other device.
I think it works fine in Linux, but never in Android.

Ultimate 2 definitely did receive a firmware update. However, you have to use the dongle, put it into the usb-c slot on the switch 2. I'm speaking of the Windows/android version.
I have an 8bit Do Ultimate 2C. And while it's a decent controller, the over-all shape of 8bit do controllers doesn't feel good. I find them to be too hard angle where the arms of the controller come down, making larger hands/longer fingers more uncomfortable. I bought a Gamesir N2 Lite recemtly and I like it a lot more, for the price. At least shape-wise, so far. If a controller is something you'll be using for sometimes hours at a time, it's worth thinking about. Otherwise the 8bit do is good. I will say the sticks on my model feel more stiff, in terms of movement. The range of the sticks is better on the Gamesir as well.
