Ours has been chugging on for 8 years, we love it. My model has the vacuum sealed steel carafe, which I prefer.

thanks. the upgraded model you recommended, available for $209, has a switch selector to go from half to full carafe, adjust temperatures, and other features. I'm in for one.

After I asked AI what automatic coffee maker should I use that filters coffee from cafestrol oils, while also minimizing microplastics, it recommended this model OR to get a stainless-steel espresso maker and use it with paper filters. Ill likely try both approaches. In for this one today (the KBGV model a user recommended below)

Is this dropping hot water onto plastic? Why does every manufacturer insist on doing that to us?

Can echo the same comment. Probably between 8-10 years for ours.

You can use a glass French Press or Chemex. Plenty of options for brewing coffee if you don't want plastic.

I have both. The issue is I can't just set and forget the night before. I just don't understand the obsession with using plastic to heat coffee in.

Would there be any issue with me setting this up and plugging it into a smart outlet, then just having the outlet turn on at a set time?

The microplastics-in-coffee people coming out of the woodworks. Check your clothing first.

I bought this 2 years ago on Black Friday. I love it. The coffee always brews hot. (I bought this model not the one with the thermos.)

yes. Check out this, which is basically a Moccamaster but with no plastic (and currently on sale as well):

Yes but I believe they make plastic free replacement parts.

After going through all that effort to minimize plastics, the decision to use plastic for the brew basket is an interesting one. It's possible the initial hot water contact with a metal brew basket would drop the temperature so much that it would affect extraction, but that could be remedied with a heated brew basket or running it under hot water first. Maybe I should invent my own!

I use a stainless steel manual drip cone myself, but if I had to make more than two cups, this would be one of the better ones on the market.
