is 990 ISO lumens enough? I'm thinking about as least 1500 lumens or higher.

I would not be spending $300 on a projector like this, when you can get 1080 china projectors for under/around when on sale for $50 that will be pretty identical minus maybe less sound out of the speakers. Everything else they mention in the features section like their ultra bright technology seems like fluff.

I want to get an outdoor projector for my parents and am frustrated at all the noise around what makes a good projector. 3 main things im learning:
  • The cheap chinese projectors lie about their lumen output
  • "No" projector will ever work in daylight so is it really worth spending more ?
  • These nebula mobile projectors are hard to understand - 200lm and they're on sale for $300 now but this one is $300 at 1,000 lumens and some saying its not great ?
Anyone have general advice ? Parents travel with an rv and thought a projector could be cool to invite their neighbors over to watch a movie or a game, etc since their trailers are all too small to have a "party"

yes and every single one says '4k' but really only means it can accept 4k signal then dumb it down to 1080p. I have a $200 projector. Its good, but compared to my macbook pro image quality its utter trash. Need to spend 500+ for a higher end image quality, colors and deeper blacks

If you guys are just looking to shine a image after the sun goes down, then there are plenty of cheap options. They will not win you any awards but for people who are traveling or just want something that might last a year or two any of the basic 1080p projectors from china will do just fine. Just have to pair them usually with a external speaker for better sound but outside of that you will get a average image when it gets dark.

Cheap option $100

Option for $114 which i think might have better sound.

If you have to have a name brand and want one for sure that will have a better picture than the above to, this is probably your best bet for $250.

No $50 projector is going to be throwing 990 iso lumens, we haven't come that far

When it comes to final outcome, it will all be very similar at that price point.

Never tried this one. However tried the t2 plus gtv and l2 plus, the image quality on them is trash. The elfin flip for $250 was way better if you can control the light. Wanbo x5 pro is worth considering too at this price range.

The cheap projectors have come a long way. Some are quite good and make me envious vs the sort of projectors we had 25 years ago. However, if you are willing to go with some of the name brand models there are some really good used options. At the big end there is the Panasonic SolidShine projectors like the PT-RZ370U. These are used on Ebay for around $150-250. They are really good with zoom, lens shift, something like 3000 lumens (what ever it is, the numbers are legit) and a hybrid solid state light source. Things like lens shift and zoom mean you don't loose resolution with digital keystone correction. Instead you use optics to deal with offsets between the projector and screen. The solid state light source is interesting. Basically they use a DLP chip but the light source is red LEDs, blue laser diodes and a green phosphorus wheel thing. Unlike the HID lamps, it turns on/off quickly. The projector itself is big and I don't think it has speakers.

Any number of used Infocus, BenQ, etc DLP projectors that use HID lamps will typically out perform these cheaper projectors. However, it does mean buying used.

Still, the modern cheap projectors are very impressive. I have a Miroir MP150 that's far better than my first projector in every way and likely better than my second projector (Infocus LP220) again in almost all ways (probably similar in real world brightness).
