I'm using 33 v3, 3 v4 cameras, duo doorbell cam, sprinkler controller and 10 smart plugs from Wyze. All the cams have use local storage via microSD cards. The app is free to use and I can watch live and review footage from the microSD cards remotely. No subscription needed for the above, nor to toggle off/on the smart plugs and sprinkler.

I have no use for any of the subscription features.

Yes, Wyze had security issues with v1 cams. They end of life them. I'm sorry, but I'd rather trust an American/Western country based company than a no name foreign based company.

Having said all that, I still put all my internet of thing devices on a separate Wi-Fi VLan just in case security issues do occur. Strong passwords and two factor occasion are a must.

guess its about how loosely you define 'American'. half the founders were Chinese nationals, every product is built in China. And some locals think its near majority owned by Hualai Technology.

that said, i love their products. ;-)

Get cameras from Reolink or Tapo, not Wyze. They have handicapped their cameras behind a subscription and have been sketchy about their privacy and data security.

These cameras are basically useless without the subscription. I got the Costco deal last year and enjoyed them while I had the sub but as soon as it ended, the cameras just became incredibly dumb. I mean I was getting notifications for shadows and lighting that never triggered when I had the sub. It even sometimes has trouble detecting when a person is in frame. Also, I found that using the light socket adapter made it so that my porch light would just turn on at the slightest thing all day despite what I had programmed in the app.

Why not just block them from internet and use some open source apps and your own vpn. Then you don't have to trust anyone. Why trust an American company - they're not worth your trust. That's just countryist.

Better the devil you know than the one you don't. Didn't say any company was perfect, wherever they are based. Thus, the reasonable precautions.

The man said he has over 50 devices working as intended with no issues and your reply is suggesting he goes with a DIY solution? Did you even read his post?

Thanks for this! Only needed 2 to meet the $25 minimum since it counts the non-discounted price towards the minimum.
