I normally use the pods, but ran out a couple weeks ago. I have a box of finish powder that I bought awhile back due to this video so I figured I'd give it a try now that I'm out of pods. I have never had to rewash so many dishes. The powder does a far worse job of cleaning than the pods. I have a newer 3 rack kitchenaid and have also read that newer dishwashers are made with the pods in mind while the advice in the video is more for older/bare bones dishwashers (no idea how accurate that is though). But from my personal experience over the last couple weeks, I can't imagine going back to powder. The pods work so much better for me. My Amazon subscription gets here this weekend with some new ones and I can't wait to stop having to pre wash every particle off of my dishes that the powder forces me to do in order to come out clean.

This is why you may want to skip the pods altogether:

TLDW:
The powders are better at cleaning and better for the environment. For most cycles throw in half a tablespoon of powder as pre-wash in addition to 1 tablespoon of powder for the regular wash.

I don't know if it's my water or what, but I tried switching to Cascade Complete powder after watching that video and, while my dishes still got clean, my glassware looked terrible. A glass would go in with a fingerprint on it, and it would come out and the fingerprint would still be there, along with a lot of streaks. Yes, I used rinse said. Switching back to Cascade pods (doesn't seem to matter which, I can't tell a difference between the Cascade Complete ones and the Platinum Plus ones) and the problem went away with the first load.

actually would need 4 to hit over $50, better off buying 1 or 2 and looking for another P&G product deal that gets you right to $50 w/o going over by $14.

This video helped me switch back to powder. I'm just using cheap Great Value powder from Walmart. I was using expensive pods before. Note: I have a water softener and drain the hot water first. I also put a little bit of citric acid.

I found this item and added 3 cascade to my cart, added 1 dawn. During checkout, changed the cascade to subscribe and save, and total was just over $50 Smilie

If anyone's on the fence, I highly recommend Finish pods over Cascade pods. Our dishes frequently had a weird smell and were streaky, and we tried crazy stuff for literally a year (prewash crap, citric acid and vinegar cleanses, etc) because we figured Cascade was a high-quality brand and there HAD to be something wrong with our dishwasher. We ran out one day and bought some Finish pods as a backup, and instantly noticed a HUGE difference in our dishwasher performance from the first use. Results may vary, I guess? But if you're frustrated with Cascade pods, definitely give Finish a try. I'm so annoyed we didn't switch earlier.
