Make sure you don't update the firmware- they effectively blocked QZ:

It also allows you to use this bike with Peloton classes (or Zwift or whatever). It works great and is well worth the $5

Good deal... had got one during inflated COVID price at $400 (deal back then). Works well with the Eschelon app on my iPad to date. no issue. At this price no brainer if in market for a bike

Is this a lot better than those generic Chinese brand bikes for around the same price? I'm very interested but I don't want to deal with needing the app and a subscription to use this.. Not sure if I should gamble on this having older firmware.

You can probably get a cloth hanger from your local marketplace. Schwinn IC4 is fantastic echelon is usually great as well. I use an EX-3 with QZ app and Peloton app. Love the setup. Ex-3 or Ex-5 are great bikes.

But make sure to get old firmware. Don't get a bike forcing you to one vendor app.
