Some people believe Mac has bad I/O. They kinda forget Apple even before Steve Jobs came back fixed that. It was only cheap models from 1994-1997 really that had I/O issues.

Early FireWire and USB drives also got their limits pushed on Mac but that wasn't Apple's fault.

Apple co-developed Thunderbolt and USB-C, which led to USB4 merging both.

As long as the enclosure uses the ASM2464PD chipset and you get the firmware on it up to date, different USB4 enclosures would perform identically...except for cooling which would be more on the design of the enclosure and presence or lack of fan.

Here's a good blog describing the chipsets
https://dancharblog.wordpress.com...sets-2022/

Here's a link to the ASM2464PD firmware - if you already have any enclosure with this chipset, you can update and fix disconnect issues if you're having them.

Here's a link to an enclosure with the same ASM2464PD chipset for half the price - 40Gbps

I got this when it was on sale last time for $85. Absolutely beast of an enclosure. Been going strong as my main drive for my Mac mini for almost 6 months with no hiccups. I'm tempted to get another for my 4K blu-ray rips.

Good price but wondering if the owc express 1m2 80g will go on sale. It's twice as fast (in theory anyway).

What are you talking about? My device has been running 24/7 on macOS for approximately six months without any issues. I haven't experienced any disconnections.

You shouldn't be using an external usb/tb drive if you're doing reads/writes 24/7
You shouldn't proclaim anything without explaining why. We don't hold you as the authority in all things tech. This is like a crazy guy yelling at the corner.

"Main drive" as in you boot with it? Is the bus speed of the external actually faster than that of the internal drive?

This seems way overpriced for what you get. Am I missing something?...
