That is just silliness. It is not "always good advice". There are times, situations, and individuals that may be advantaged by buying extended warrantees. However, for many it is a chump purchase. Sort of like the automobile undercoating that everyone used to pay for.

Personally, I have never had an extended warrantee (other than if it was thrown in free or covered by my CC), nor have I ever felt I lost on the bet.

Hint, they don't price those warrantees to lose money.

this is a sub-$400 dishwasher and not worth buying an extended warranty. plus, the extended warranties for dishwashers typically have significant exclusions. for example - for dishwashers, the extended warranty will deny your claim for racks where the PVC/Nylon coating has worn off and the steel wire rack is rusting.

most parts on these basic dishwashers you can replace yourself following simple youtube videos.

This is a good price, but it's a plastic tub. I'd rather spend the extra $50-100 to go stainless steel when that type of deal comes around.

ALWAYS buy the 5 year extended warranty for dishwashers. They are the most prone to failures and repairs, honestly went thru 3 dishwashers in the past 10 years. Home depot only sent repairs once and second time just gave me a giftcard. The newer dishwashers have so many electrical components that they are almost guaranteed to fail if you use them daily.

A 52 dBA dishwasher is considered moderately quiet, not loud. It is often compared to the sound of an average household refrigerator and is generally quiet enough to not be disruptive, although it will be noticeable. While some might find it slightly noisy, it is a significant improvement over older models that can be 60 dBA or louder.

it's $400. and the standard noise for dishwashers in this price range, is actually 52-55. so this is on the quieter end.

if you want to reduce the noise, you can remove the toekick and use thicker insulation, and also use a thicker blanket wrap around the tub. can go a step further and remove the door shell, install insulation, and put it back together

sorry some of us have back issues and not about to get $500 worth of doctor bills because we didn't buy the $150 extended warranty! Big Grin

Basically it's always the best advice to get extended warranties, especially nowadays. I have always done it and I've always preached it and it has helped in the past many times

Does anybody know what the specials that are going on with with Home Depot with the dishwashers? Which one is like exceptional deal with as many options. I haven't really been on top of it but all the sudden now I need one. Mine is leaking at the door. It's so old. I can't even get a gasket. Probably 22 years old. A GE but of course basics made of plastic. I know prices jump up big time for the stainless steel inside. Is it worth it that much to get that being that dishes got clean no matter what? And if it's plastic or metal I don't know. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Expect 8-10 years out of a modern dishwasher.

In today's world, look for 46db or less. Mine is 42 and very quiet. Even if the sound is ok for you, my belief is the lower the number, the odds are it's a better overall unit. Sound in my view is third, first comes cleaning ability and second is reliability. The lower the number, typically but not always the better cleaning and more reliable the model is. Just my experience.
