Works ok, water dries up and has to be refilled from time to time.

Not a bad gift for the price.

It is.

This is just a throwaway toy after a month or two.

We had fun with it. Teaches some interesting engineering concepts. Most toys lose their appeal after a few hours and I don't love plastic going to the landfill, but this took me and my son several sessions to build. The final hand is very cool. I look at how much excess plastic packaging there is that has extremely limited use and I'd say it's worth $16 and a small amount of consumed plastic.

As someone with a lot of hand problems, I uniquely appreciate the images.

"Give yourself a hand!"
"Incredible range of motion!"
"Pick up and hold large and small objects!"

If the hands came as a pair, I'd be unstoppable!

I wonder if replacing it with something like mineral oil and gluing the ends of the tubes might mitigate or resolve the issue.

Also, if you do replace the water w/water, use distilled water (not tap) to prevent deposits from forming on the insides of the tubes.
