An fyi these prefer clean solid power.

Depending on usage, you may need external amps for optimal performance IME.

Solid deal. Ive been thoroughly enjoying these paired with an Arcam AVR31. It provides plenty of power to drive these to very very loud levels. Agree though that these do need decent amplification to play loudly.

Couple of years ago these came in sale for $2000 a pair not in black but the other terrible color. $3000 sounds a bit I would consider other options.

As far as another option, I would throw in the Silver 500s for $3188/pr into the conversation.

You're correct, they were the 3800s. I picked them up directly from JBL in Walnut for $2000 a pair on that sale. They come in three finishes including a satin.

Not sure if joking or not, but they are VERY different use cases. If you have a medium to large room, LS50 would be a pretty terrible choice (even with a sub).
Ill say these HDI-3800 work very well for mixed use case (movies/music) in a large room. I have them paired with a TV1813 sub and really enjoy them for both music and movies. If youre more focused on movies, these speakers surely scratch that itch (but theyre detailed enough to also be good for music).

If you mean sound wise, they have two very different sounds. You would have to listen to both of them to find out which one you prefer.

Small-to-medium room, with sub, primarily home theater use in a surround setup, but also listening to music.

Not sure why I would be joking. Speakers are speakers; they're all designed to output sound. My only question was which speaker is regarded as producing higher-quality sound by audiophiles.

I agree speakers do produce sound. How good or bad they sound is completely subjective. You're gonna get a lot of opinions from audiophiles(whatever that means).Unfortunately they won't actually tell you how you "regard" them.You would have to listen to them to actually find out imo.
