Though their bags and this policy are certainly amazing, but the repair policy does have its exclusions: certain models they won't repair past a certain date.

I generally error on size up a bit, the only downside to that is that it might be a tiny big heavier.
Maybe my larger osprey one ~65l or so if it's super cold and I have to bring more gear to stay warm, or smaller 45 if it's warmer out. A really universal size is probably around 55l for women and 60l for men or in that general size. You can always attach stuff to the outside if you need with lashing straps.
