Have a couple of the kasa version of these (1 for pond 1 for christmas lights) and have absolutely no complaints with the functionality or longevity in elements when protected by the house overhangs or placed inside a water resistant box (so many sockit boxes around the yard...) If you're not a BB member you can get the older kasa version at amazon for about this price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091FXH2FR?th=1 (the matter version is $23.) At least for my uses (google home integration, android cell use with the latest tapo app) there doesn't seem to be a requirement to have the new version, but if you have an apple infrastructure the new version mentions apple, the old version doesn't at first blush.

Agreed with all points above. We have the same one and even bought one as a gift for others - the older version has been rock solid over several winters.

Any reason to buy the Tapo version over Kasa version if I already have a collection of Kasa devices that I'm satisfied with and using Kasa app? Is there any kind of future proofing benefit or anything like that?

I believe the Tapo app can manage both.

I've got the Kasa version and it has been flawless outside in the rain and snow. 3rd season incoming!

We have a mix of Kasa and Tapo lights and switches and the Tapo app manages them all. The migration from the Kasa app to the Tapo app was very easy. We have about a 15 devices, three years and counting, not a single failure.

I've been using one of these for my Fall porch and it's been flawless. Too bad I already ordered the other 2 I need for Christmas, to replace my WEMOs that are losing support. These are a breeze to set up and I like that you can program each plug separately if you need to.

We switched over all our switches, plugs etc (36 of them!!!!!) to Tapo a while back and have been very happy.

Any benefit in migrating your Kasa devices to Tapo? I have a Kasa version of this plug and I'm looking to buy this version but unsure about the app controls?

I have about four of these outside Kasa ones and 18 of the small inside plugs. They have all been great. One of the outside ones I nailed with the pressure washer over and over because I forgot it was behind the tree and it still works two years later. lol

Can extension cords plug in all the way or does the small strip around the outlet block it at all? I have an older zwave one and had to modified a little for an extension cord.

I had Kasa version of the outdoor smart plug for a while and I found to be a reliable device. I accidentally broke one device due to my stupidity. I plugged a power washer into this device and It literally blow out. Just keep in mind this has limited power requirement.

I love my Kasa versions. Just started to have a problem with one of them. When used outdoors they are in the garage (not really outdoors but more extreme temps) or on the porch. No matter what, one of them is tripping the GFI on that line. Swapped for another and no issue. Haven't had a chance to look deeper into the problem. Otherwise they have been champs.
