A lot of people won't be able to tell the difference at viewing distances for this size of TV. Some people don't pay for 4k Netflix, traditional TV is sometimes still 720p and then you have a large portion of the population with terrible eyesight (older people).

I bought this TV for my daughter. Requires a power cycle for the audio to work half the time. Hoping there's a software fix. But fine TV for a kids room

I honestly think it's crazy that they still make 1080p TVs. Since 4K TVs are so cheap to produce. Honestly I don't see why companies don't make 2K TVs if they want to do some kind of weaker and cheaper model. 1080p is kind of outdated now. Even the Xbox Series S does 1440p.

It would be just fine as a monitor if you don't mind everything being big. I have a similar setup for one PC that gets moved around a work area on a rolling stand. It's just what we need for keeping diagrams up on the screen.

If going this large, go 43" and 4K. I think you'd find 40" pixelated, especially if sitting at a desk near the screen. With 4K it doesn't matter how close you get to the screen, sharp as can be. 43" has been perfect for me. I split the screen and it gives me two perfect windows to work with. Two screens side-by-side is so much easier when using productivity apps, paying bills, surfing the web, watching shows.

if they could make this size at this price in 4k they would... also, there is still fairly little 4k content - most is 1080p or lower (broadcast, cable, streaming, blu-ray, dvd, all prior gen game systems, etc. which a lot of people still use).

Not sure if this is the same model, but the 1080p TCL 40in firetv I got from best buy last year isn't energy star rated so this could be a power hog. Just something to look into if power draw is a concern, and really it should be for everyone with today's rates.

Earlier this year I scored a TCL 43" 4K open box @ WM for $80 and have been using it as a desktop monitor with NO issues at all

Actually bought this TV and it is a great deal as a secondary one for something like a bedroom. Nice picture, decent sound and a 4.7 Best Buy rating. 1080P is more than sufficient for this size of TV.

4K resolution provides a noticeable improvement over 1080p once TV sizes reach around 50 inches or larger, especially if viewed from less than 6 to 8 feet away. On smaller screens or from farther distances, the difference is minimal. For 65 to 75 inch TVs, 4K offers a clear advantage, and for 85 inches or more, 4K is essential as 1080p will look soft or pixelated. True 4K content is required to see the full benefit, while upscaled 1080p will not appear as sharp.

From specs [bestbuy.com]...

Estimated Annual Operating Cost
17 United States dollars

Estimated Annual Electricity Use
106 kilowatt hours

The TCL 40Q35F is energy-efficient for a modern smart TV. It consumes far less power than larger 4K sets and is unlikely to noticeably impact your electricity bill. If energy savings are a priority, this model is a solid choice.
