Ahrm…. You see…there are times then you want to see what the computer thingy is doing. And since it can't talk, it sends signals for English characters to a port. These days the most common port they send those signals is the hdmi port. You connect a display or a tv and it will translate those signal to something humans can read.

Just on a quick look, the Quick Sync function of the Celeron in the TM can provide hardware transcoding of video streams. Other than that, they look to have similar power. The TM is x86 while the UG is ARM.

Synology are good but they also recently tried to implement a policy where you had to buy special certified drives at an additional cost to use in their NAS. Who knows what nonsense they will try in the future.

Looks like Amazon [amazon.com] price matched it.

yeah thats not good , i own the 2 disk version and just use it for photo backups and secure data sharing.

i would never spend 500-1k now on a 5-8 disk

Not every NAS can do everything especially when you run over 1 PiB o f data. I have epyc just for iscsi , VMs
unraid for plex and other VMs
another unraid just for cold storage

those are 24 disk supermicros

After having used Synology and QNAP which are now old outdated models I decided to just build my own. Waiting for Unraid BF sale this week to pick up a license.

you can do the same with true nas scale

its actually better for ZFS

if you are just doing XFS and some cache drives then this would be worth it for unraid.
Unraid is not the optimal solution for ZFS as they are way behind true nas team which is free and mostly used for enterprise solutions /businesses .
