Genuine question. Why are these things so expensive? Are the batteries made of gold or something?

The ryobi 40v newest backpack blower is 599! But does come with 2 x 40v 8ah batteries. This one being 80v 4ah is less juice but comparable. Yeah they are just expensive with the batteries. I tend to buy electric tools only on clearance and over the years I've accumulated a bunch but probably cost me 60% less than retail. I think it comes down to batteries cost, they ain't cheap + warranty of 3 or 4 years on batteries and 4 to 5 years on the tool itself. Semi costly to warranty them for that long. But that's why I never buy at full retail. I use DTO AND ONLY GET FACTORY BLEMISHED so that the warranty is the same as retail vs getting reconditioned with only 1 year warranty or buy directly from Lowes, home depot or Walmart but only buy in August/September/October/Nov when they clearance stuff out. This year I got the 60v greenworks 20" mower with 2x 5ah batteries for $178 and I've been keeping my eye on the ryobi backpack blower, hoping it will go to 50% off down to 300 but it's doubtful. I'd get this one as ive got 80v kobalt tools but 419 isn't clearanced enough, I think 250 is the right slick price for me to get this one.

It's similar in price to comparable gas blowers. Is it really that expensive? Value and cost are very much in the eye of the beholder.
