If you're only really interested in NES and SNES (and that era of games) then a more powerful Android-based handheld like this is overkill.

There are lots of great options that are good for those systems that are cheaper and require less set up. Android devices are great but they require more tinkering.

Look at devices like

Anbernic RG Cube XX, RG 35XXSP, 35XX plus, Miyoo Mini Plus, Miyoo Mini flip, R36H, TrimUI Brick, TrimUI Smart Pro, RG 40XXH, RG 40XXV...

Tons of great options for you. All of these run a Linux operating system that just works out of the box with almost no tinkering. Just load your ROM and play (many even have the option of buying them pre-loaded with ROMs).

What are the latest consoles this can emulate? Anyone know? Up to PS2? PS1?
Up to (and everything below) most PS2 and GameCube. There are some PS2 and GC games that are too hard for this to run though, also some 3DS but that is more the limits of 3DS emulation, not so much the device's fault as 3DS is such a hard system to emulate. For the most part I'd say 95% of PS2 and GC are playable, might not always be able to upscale them or run at 60+ FPS though.

Should start seeing sd865 chipsets at this price range soon. We got sd gen 3 coming out for $240 now with devices like the konkr
Pretty sure the Konkr is $400. But the Retroid Pocket 6 is just $209 and has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Unless you are completely strapped, I just can't see spending $130 on an anberic device with the RP G2 and RP6 coming soon at around $200, which means RP5 will probably sell for a bit cheaper now too. Those are all such a massive upgrade in every way over this.

What is the point of a 120Hz panel on a retro console?

This would have been my perfect handheld for playing PS1/N64 games. The 4:3 screen is perfect for it at 4.7"

If I didn't already have a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, Anbernic Arc-S, Miyoo Mini plus and Anbernic RGCubeXX I'd totally buy this.

In fact, I may just buy it anyways for the 4:3 screen at 4.7.

-Some Android games support it (including playing some PC games on it via Winlator)
-Pretty sure 120Hz can make all the games play/feel smoother regardless of framerate

Damn, I regret the fact that Anbernic decided to wait 3 months later to announce the RG476H after I bought my RG406H in late June since I would much rather have purchased the RG476H instead since I much prefer its PS-centric button layout and "candy bar-esque" form factor.

For this much money it better play PS4 games
I agree that these are too high and overkill for emulation. Maybe not PS4 but at least PS2 or PS3?

This little handheld will struggle with PS2 ganes. It'll handle PSX fine, but going beyond that is questionable.

Even the Steam Deck can't play PS3 games reliably. It can handle some at playable levels, but not all. PS4 emulation is not in a great place today, and only a handful of games can be played stabily, even on beefy desktops. Like, 8 games are supported by Shad PS4, for instance.

For reliable PS2 emulation, you should really move to something like a Steam Deck. It's a great experience, in my opinion. PS3 games will run on the Deck, some quite well, but more complex titles will be unplayable. It's a bit of a crapshoot, and you can find people testing titles online so you don't waste your time with an unstable title. You will of course be better off with something with a better CPU like the ROG Ally.

Decreased input latency and BFI(black frame insertion) for increased motion clarity.

I say get a clamp on controller for your android phone, like the 8bitdo mobile, and a Steamdeck Oled for more serious purposes if you really actually need it.

If you want to throw money into this sector of shady handhelds, aren't OLED models only $20 or $30 away? When the hardware limits you to older consoles and older games, the screen quality becomes the forefront.
