- Matter can work over whatever radio technology; eg, there are Matter over WiFi devices. This is Matter over Thread specifically, so it needs a thread border router
- This is a single device, not a display with a remote sensor like one might often expect with a weather station. The unit you see in the photo will live outside.
- The warranty is only 90 day, which is sort of weak for an outdoor device. I'd want to see at least a year so I know if it will survive all seasons. Can it handle full sun in summer followed by a thunderstorm? Can it take being frozen for a week in winter? Maybe, but that 90 day warranty sure makes it seem like the manufacturer doesn't have a high confidence in the weather sealing.
