This one does NOT support Dolby Vision. For those who have a Dolby Vision TV or a collection of 4K UHD discs with Dolby Vision, you should get the UB820 or higher instead.

I did way too much research 2 years ago and got the ub420 over the ub820 and others. The only significant difference is Dolby Vision (DV) on the ub820. My TVs cannot do DV, so it was easy. The HCX optimizer on the ub420 made me pick it over the ub450 or the other uhd player brands.

Fyi it also offers their Optimizer HDR processing that's in the 820/9000.
It does such a good job, if on a budget it may not be worth paying double for the 820 ime.
Especially since that's basically the only difference in performance.
Keep in mind, not all content offer DV also.

Be sure to keep an eye on open box deals at Best Buy, since those prices also come down with the New price. Last November when this was also $200 for New condition, I was able to get an Open Box - Excellent for $136.

Reminder you can get the UB450 for $239 at Walmart.com and it supports Dolby Vision.
The only downside is it has no upscaling that this/820 have.

Wanted to get your opinion: I have an LG C5. Is there any clear advantage of the UB820 if I can go into my C5 settings and tweak those and use a Blu-ray player like this? Sorry, this comes off as a noob question.

Would I notice a difference upgrading from a PS5? I have a S90F coming in but I'm overall a fairly casual coming from streaming.

Wow that's a slick deal! I got one in March 2025, open box excellent from BB but paid more, around $155, free shipping. It was as good as new and has been working great ever since.
