None of these consumer grade nugget ice makers have stellar reviews. Even if you buy the 400 dollar ones they will breakdown after a year or 2 of constant use. IMO pick up one of these with the cheap allstate purchase protection plan and just get it replaced or refunded when it inevitably breaks down.

I've had a first gen GE Opal for 4 years now. They are definitely finicky, but if you maintain them properly they run well. The problem is they require a lot of ongoing maintenance.
This no-name, ridiculously overpriced, "value" from Walmart (a $20 markdown vs. the $200 claimed) gets 33 up votes.
A quality, name-brand, ice maker at Costco ($250 everywhere else) for $9 LESS only gets 14 up votes. https://www.costco.com/p/-/frigid...?langId=-1
Do these really keep the ice frozen? It worries me that it's just a little plastic to keep it cool enough to not melt.. And does that mean it's gonna use a lot of power or be loud when it's on? Anyone have experiences with this and have input?

Ice machines are inherently gross. Lots of great places for mold and mildew and other nasty things to grow if you dont constantly clean it. Get ice cube trays at a fraction of the cost and save yourself the hassle.

You're exactly correct. My wife just got this and it's constantly running. That ice in the basket melts down into the water supply below, then gets re-frozen and comes back out on top as ice.
