None of these ice makers have refrigeration that will keep the ice frozen. They all let the ice melt, and when the ice tray gets lower due to the ice melt, it'll re-create the ice. It's good for creating batches of ice, or having extra ice during a 4-hour window like a party, but it's not particularly good at being on all the time.

On another note, the black color is cheaper, not sure why that one wasn't posted instead of the stainless steel one.

Probably the same as Amazon.com: Nugget Ice Maker Countertop [amazon.com] for $152, list price $200. That's more than $99 but much less than what Walmart says is the regular price.

This looks exactly like the last nugget maker I bought, which failed right out of warranty. The auger gets hung once ice starts forming. I'm thinking it's a stripped gear and maybe can fix if I tear it down but probably will take $100 of my time so may grab this. This will be my third one.. these things are not built to last

I've had a similar nugget maker for about 2 years now. I clean it very 2 weeks. No issues to date but I agree, I'm probably on borrowed time.

I have this same machine under a different brand. I guarantee you these are not $300+. I bought mine some time around March for about $150. This price is better but that retail price is inflated.

I saw one of these being used at a house party and saw some a good bit of mold inside. I'd stay away unless you clean it well and often.

How easy is this to clean? Is this something I could easily hook up for a bit to make some ice for drinks and then store it away somewhere until I need it again? Or is it bulky and heavy?

My fridge ice maker failed and it costs me than the fridge to repair it. So the nugget maker I have is my primary side of ice. Not great, but it works for my family.

I find it easy to clean. Scrub with diary and water, drain and since. Add soapy water and fun clean cycle. Drain and rinse. Fun clean cycle with fresh water. Drain and rinse. Takes about 30 minutes but I multitask.

My in-laws store theirs and only use for parties. It's possible to store it, I just didn't have the room to do so. I would also make sure that the unit is clean and dry before storing.

As with all of these devices, always use distilled water. Clean them 1-2 times a month with vinegar or special tablets.

I get that they serve a purpose but it seems like such a waste of energy compared to ice in a freezer which stays frozen when inside.

Cleaning is simple, but it takes a little time because of the way the cleaning cycles work. The machine has a built-in fifteen minute self-clean mode. You fill the reservoir with a vinegar and water mixture and run the cycle once. After that, you run one or two more clean water cycles to rinse out the vinegar. Each cycle is fifteen minutes, so the whole cleaning process is mostly waiting.
In addition to the self-clean cycles, you wash the removable parts, such as the basket, the reservoir lid, the filter, and the scooper with warm soapy water. You also wipe and scrub the interior surfaces that are not removable, which includes the reservoir walls and the area you see when you take off the lid. These are the surfaces that come in contact with water and can develop buildup, so they need occasional manual scrubbing. This only takes a few minutes.
You can unplug the machine and store it when you are not using it. If you use it only occasionally, it is best to clean it each time you take it out so it never sits with moisture inside. If you keep it running continuously, a cleaning every two to four weeks is a good schedule. Nugget ice makers stay damp inside, so regular cleaning prevents mold or mildew.
