Seagate's Barracuda drives are absolute junk these days. They have a 2 year warranty, and if you are lucky that is about how long they will last before dying.

Better off to spend the money towards a quality drive.

I almost bit but to your point there were a lot of complaints about these DOA. Price is good but I'll have to pass

How bad are these really? If one were to run a full test (full drive scan, which probably takes 2 days on this large a drive) and only keep the drives that pass, are they really that bad? The price is very very tempting, one could buy extra drives (also fully tested) ready to be popped into a RAID array upon a failure. I've only ever used fully tested by me WDs which I bought new, and have had stellar success with them, but dang is $10/TB attractive!

Like they say if it sounds too good to be true prob is LOL. Anyways, there is a reason they keep shortening the warranty I remember when they all had 5 year warranties then they cut down that to 3 and now down to 2 which is coincidently or not when most of these drives go bad IME.

I mean this is my own experience but in my current rig, all the Seagate drives have failed as u can see using it's own software diagnostic tools, where the WD and Hitachi drives not to mention all my SSD are still running fine
The 8TB drives which is one of the failed drives was prone to high failure rates supposedly, so don't know if they got any better since have avoided them since had so many failed drives from Seagate. Just looking at the reviews on the Newegg page for this don't look like they got any better most of the comments seem to be DOA drive or failed after few months

That's an odd assertion to make about a design that hasn't even been on the market for 1 year. Besides the name, these share little in common with any prior Barracuda.

It's a new technology, so it's hard to say. Most of the complaints seem to be about DOA drives, so I would suggest testing them thoroughly.
