This 5TB is cheaper than their 4TB. I couldn't find any cheaper Portable Hard Drive and Costco had Sandisk 2TB for ~$125 so I thought this was a good deal.

This is a 5400 rpm HDD, I think. You cannot compare its price or performance with a 2 TB SSD, such as the one from Costco. Different leagues.

Western Digital Elements is an externally powered drive and thus not comparable to this

I have been looking for a portable WD, and this is the closest thing to a deal I have seen in a long time.

I think I picked up my previous 5 TB WD portable for under $100 a few years back.

draws power from a USB bus-powered port on your device, meaning that it requires no other additional external power source

Same price in amazon but if bought from WD they offer 1 extra year of warranty.
I need a drive for my Synology NAS backup, is this a good option?

My local Sam's Club used to have these 5TB WD Passports for $99 or $109 depending on the week. Been a while since I saw any there, though.

I have a couple 4TB WD Passports that I shucked to use in a small form factor media PC. The drives inside are twice the thickness of regular SATA drives. I wonder if they've boosted the per-platter density and thinned these down.

The one for $110 at BHP has a USB 3.0 micro-USB interface. The one at WesternDigital is USB 3.2 USB-C. Not sure it the interface speed or the disk speed is going to be the bottleneck.
