For what it's worth, I buy a lot of black socks and these had holes in them quicker than any others. YMMV though

I'll stick with my Sam's Club socks, about $1.10 each in packs of 10. About 80% cotton.

Cotton material isn't durable and will rip over time especially if you are playing sports with hard cuts and stops. Wear the correct shoe size as that puts more wear and tear on socks. Cut your toenails especially your big toe toenail. Whenever I get a little hole, it is on the big toe area of the sock. I never ever get rips anywhere except the big toenail area. I just wear those on the opposite foot so that little hole is above the pinky toe which has no impact and wouldn't rip wider open from the pinky toe.
