After the phone ships or picked up, you can then cancel the account. activation fee is waived if cancelled within 3 days and you end up paying couple of dollars for couple of days of prorated usage. The phone is factory unlocked and ready to use used with any carrier from day 1.

Purchased for delivery from BB on Tuesday, arrived next day, installed sim to get phone # called Verizon to cancel. needed the 4-digit pin I set up when purchasing from BB. Cancel lined by calling 1-800-922-0204. They told me I will be charged the one-month service but then will get a credit back for the same amount and end of billing cycle. I asked if I can just lock my card (used virtual cc) so I would not be charged, and the service rep told me ok. Locked my cc, hope Verizin will not give me a hard time about it

Make sure the line is disconnected right away. If for right credit will be applied to the current bill
Took a lot of time. First call, the rep was clueless how to do it. Next time was chat and got handed to tech support to check why I could not get 5g (my reason for cancelling - which is true in my location). The chat eventually disconnected. Second chat knew what to do and just needed to issue extra credit for activation. Still not sure bill will be correct. Need to wait and see.

Don't do this !!!!!! I did, canceled with Verizon on the same day I got the phone (one day after ordering it from BB) . Now I still got a bill in the mail from Verizon for $111 !!! this will take a long time on the phone to get it solved😔...
