U8 because it has better color accuracy. Very close to Sony bravia 9 in color accuracy.

Doesn't EOTF represented color accuracy? According to rtings the TCL is more accurate:

Hisense: 5.9
TCL: 7.6
https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/c...125/101781

Whichever is chosen, I'd suggest an extended warranty (I would even if was a Sony TV). They are both well regarded TV models. I've heard several describe the Hisense as more vibrant (similar to Samsung) and the TCL more accurate/reference (similar to Sony).

According to AI "AI Overview
TCL is often considered to have better quality control
, particularly in its higher-end models, with its local dimming algorithms and overall picture processing being more consistently polished and accurate, which results in less blooming and a more refined image. While Hisense can have very impressive specifications and raw brightness, it sometimes lacks the refinement of TCL, though Hisense can be a strong contender and sometimes excels in out-of-the-box calibration accuracy. Ultimately, for a balanced and consistent experience, especially for gaming, TCL may have a slight edge.
TCL's strengths
More consistent picture processing: TCL often has a more refined local dimming algorithm, leading to better contrast and less blooming.
Superior gaming performance: TCL TVs are noted for having faster response times and more superior motion handling, which is beneficial for gamers.
Better HDR accuracy: TCL often has better PQ EOTF tracking and its overall HDR impact feels more controlled and consistently impressive.
Hisense's strengths
High raw brightness: Hisense TVs can be brighter, especially in SDR (standard dynamic range) content, which is great for very bright rooms.
Strong out-of-the-box accuracy: In some models, Hisense has shown slightly better out-of-the-box pre-calibration accuracy in both HDR and SDR modes.
Better upscaling: Some Hisense models have better upscaling for low-resolution content.
Which to choose
Choose TCL if: You prioritize accuracy, consistency, a balanced picture, and superior gaming performance over raw brightness, especially in HDR.
Choose Hisense if: You watch a lot of content in a very bright room, need the best possible SDR brightness, or prioritize out-of-the-box calibration accuracy over processing refinement. "

I second the the comment above about getting an extended warranty. I have the 85-in u7k which granted isn't a u8, but it was better than the u7n that preceded the u8 series and after 11 months I'm getting brown splotches all over the screen and they're very noticeable and it's definitely the backlight display. I bought a 85-in 75-in and 65 in in the u7k when they were on sale and although I even watched my 75-in much my u85 is definitively got a bad panel. I've read about the panel lottery with these big screens and I don't know what to say, except I'd be extremely careful and get an extended warranty. Granted Hisense gives you a 2-year warranty and if it's from Amazon allegedly if you use your prime Amazon card, that's the third year but I'd get a warranty. I only paid $1,200 for my 85 u7k but it looks really bad and I'm not a perfectionist. I mean, even in gray cloudy scenes you can see the brown splotches and it's definitively having a vignette effect too. So it's definitely a backlighting issue. And ironically my 2019 or 20/20 u9g 65-in Hisense that probably has $8 or 9,000 hours on it. It was my first Hisense set that I keep upstairs. The back lighting is brilliant, not as many lumens but super uniform so obviously they've cheapened their mini LED back lighting arrays and nothing can fix this problem. I'm waiting for it to go out of the 2-year Hisense warranty so I can just claim it under my asurion warranty that I paid $129 for... It seems to be more of an issue on the 85s as my 75 looks pretty good. And actually I think I've got five Hisense televisions and the two best looking backlighting setups are on a u9g that I bought in in 2020 and another u9g that I picked up a couple years later in a 55 in for A spare bedroom that I checked out but something about that. 85-in and it came from Amazon and yeah the box had little battle damage on it. But it's definitely got to be some kind of control board issue because the splotchiness is so non-uniform that I can't imagine it could be the LEDs themselves. Maybe it's the control board that handles the pixels. I don't know enough about TVs but beware. I would just make sure you get a warranty

Looking for the best AI upscaling mostly on OTA signals. No one is reviewing this or comparing this feature. I returned a Sony Bravia this year because of the OTA picture was subpar.

Best AI upscaling is Sony. Who's second? Sony. Third? Sony. No one touches Sony processing and upscaling.

I own the TCL QM8K now....because I was not going to spend stupid money on an 85" Bravia 9 and the Bravia 7 was a lateral purchase vs. my old Sony.

The TCL does a good job and the image is spectacular....but sensitive to source input. It is not Sony level. I find i need to occasionally tweak a motion setting once a day maybe. The Hisense? Similar. A Sony? Never. Once and done setting adjustment when purchased. Sony may not be perfect but its as close as today's tech gets.

If you didn't like the Sony upscaling, you're currently not going to like any other TV's upscaling or processing. Also consider that the bigger the tv screen the more pronounced broadcast flaws will appear.

To be clear, when I say Sony is best im focused on sets that use their X1 or reality processor

Where does it say that buying with a prime card gives an extra 1 year warranty?

I also can't find that there is a 2 year warranty on this TV, let alone the 3rd year. I don't have this but the U7 in my cart.

My previous 85" Hisense that I got in Dec 2020 from best buy died yesterday. No picture just sound. Need a replacement 85" quick enough. Costco is out of stock for the Hisense and the TCL QM6K.
