For gaming there is not much of performance gain.

Unless I'm mistaken, the block diagram on this board shows the second M.2 sharing bandwidth with its two PCIe Gen 5 slots. I'm curious about the real-world impact on graphics if I enable Gen5 x4 on that second M.2. That said, their X870E Edge TI model has its second M.2 sharing bandwidth with the 40Gbps USB-C ports and you can disable those ports to get full Gen 5 x4 bandwidth without robbing bandwidth from the PCIe slots. I'm sitting here trying to decide which compromise to make. Anyone have thoughts on this?

probably you need a e-atx board to do that, and for the second 5090 you have to use 5090 fe, or PCIE extension cable maybe. Considering bandwidth is important, you also need to find a e-atx with both pcie5x16 to get the best performance.

Might be a good replacement for my horrible Asrock X870E Nova 9800X3D serial killer

The more recently released X870E Tomahawk WiFi is a better deal, get a $30 Steam card for that one

I have this motherboard and paid $400 back in March. It has performed flawlessly. No regrets.

Why, specifically? The Tomahawk is probably usually a better deal, but if this brings the price closer, maybe it's worth it?

all the x870e boards perform basically the same.
It's the extra features, looks, and maybe VRMs (if going for extreme build/OCing) that will make a diff on what board you want to buy.

I have bot this and the mentioned Tomahawk on my to-buy list... when I need a board, it'll probably be color being the main reason to choose one over the other.
