They all do that. Side by sides have multiple cooling ports from the freezer along the side. A top freezer only has one on top. It's a design feature. There is no cooling unit for the fridge, it just bleeds off cold air from the freezer. That air is going to be extremely cold wherever it enters the refrigerator.

Mine is about 8 months old and the ice maker just broke again, was fixed 4 weeks ago...I wish I could send it back and get my money back (bought directly from whirlpool)
