Valvoline R&P is API certified, and in order to be certified, it has to pass compatibility testing for gaskets and seals, so it is good for long term use.
Also, it does not have a high detergent level that dries out gaskets/seals. It has a specific patented molecule for removing carbon. It's not Dexos certified because it is rumored that GM (the creators of the specification) requires the formulation be disclosed. Valvoline said no and has kept it secret for now. A lot of R&D went into developing this oil, a lot. So I don't blame Valvoline. Also oil has come a long way since the whole Dexos thing 15 or so years ago anyways.
The people who all of a sudden claim to have engine gasket/seal leaks after using this oil, must have already had compromised gaskets and seals beforehand. And the removal of the deposits exposed their existing problem.
After it resolved my chain rattle, I started putting it in all my older cars.
This price is okay. Walmart typically has 5qt jugs for $30, and you can get equal or better filters for about the same price. The real deal is the $15 gift card, if you're willing to do the rebate.

This price is okay. Walmart typically has 5qt jugs for $30, and you can get equal or better filters for about the same price. The real deal is the $15 gift card, if you're willing to do the rebate.
That all said, wish this deal was for up to 6 quarts, not everyone has the 2.0L turbo 4-bangers almost every manufacturer makes these days, lol! The rebate will pay for the extra quart I need I suppose.
